Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
