Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title since 1990, has since taken on roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I won't manage a different club within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...yeah. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision later on, it's uncertain. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to management, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or constant media duties a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out alongside the squad having a nice chat, I appreciate that. With many victories so there was often great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international died tragically in a road accident together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of such an individual? It’s not about the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the squad without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A devastating blow for his teammates too. Not a single person might employ it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is challenging. Overwhelming.”
