Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Allegations Against 38 Patients

Prosecutors report that a former doctor has been charged with committing assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

The Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of sexual offences – comprising some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

A deputy chief CPS official said, “Legal teams have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Investigation

The charges come after what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer is due to appear at the local magistrates' court on January 20th.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents outline the forty-five charges he is charged with:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
