Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price relocated to London at the start of the 1960s to attend the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price specifically designed for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes established him as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.
